A church is only as holy, gracious, and full of life as the people who comprise it — and Holy Trinity is a vibrant, thriving, and welcoming community! We summarize our purpose and mission as KNOW – GROW – GO. These three words define and motivate everything we do.
We strive to support the faith journey of all people — from questioning non-Catholics to the newly-baptized to the cradle Catholics — at every age, so each person may come to know God in a personal way. Rich in diversity and united in faith, our community exudes a joyful spirit of deep affection for Christ, for each other, and for the world at large, driven by an enthusiastic desire to help each other grow in our faith and relationship with Jesus. That spirit shines brightest in our efforts to go forth and make a difference in our world: in our families and neighborhoods, in our workplaces and classrooms, in the lives of those we know and the lives of strangers we may never meet.
We are blessed by a multicultural, energetic, caring congregation that makes a continual effort to improve our faith community, our neighborhood, and our world!
Construction of the upper floor of the original two-story school building was completed in December 1962, which allowed for students in the first four grades to move into the school. The first Mass was celebrated on Palm Sunday of 1963 in the school gymnasium, which doubled as the church on weekends. Because of the continued growth in the parish, the gym eventually became the fulltime church.
Holy Trinity School officially opened its doors for the 1963–64 school year, under the direction of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon, with kindergarten through sixth grade. Until Fr. Carl Mai was appointed as its first pastor in 1965, Holy Trinity was considered a mission of St. Cecilia. Archbishop Howard presided at the dedication Mass on January 16, 1966. The kitchen, cafeteria, and four more classrooms were finished in 1966. This enabled the school to add the seventh and eight grade, with the first graduating class in June 1967. The two-story west wing was completed in 1979, which includes the Fireside Room (named after its fireplace, which was removed in the early 1990s). Artist rendering of new sanctuary in 2000
In 1994, planning began to build a separate worship space, leading to the “Building a Legacy Campaign” in 1996 to fundraise for the new church. Groundbreaking took place in June 1999, and the new (current) church was completed in 2001, connecting to the school building through the west wing. The Sanctuary was dedicated on November 18, 2001, with Archbishop John G. Vlazny presiding.
Holy Trinity has seen a multitude of renovations, expansions, and other construction projects in the last two decades. The old church was returned to a gymnasium in January 2002. The summer of 2007 saw the construction of a 320-meter track (five laps per mile). The Parish Office went through an extensive remodel in 2006 and was further expanded in 2010. The cafeteria was remodeled as simultaneous construction of our school’s pre-kindergarten classroom took place in the spring and summer of 2011, welcoming its first class that September.
In 2017, an LED signboard was installed by our Walker Road entrance. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020, the parish invested in technology and resources to record, edit, and upload Mass each week. Live streaming equipment was installed in December 2020, just in time for Christmas Masses. Extensive updates were made to the church’s sound system in 2022 and 2023, and a campus-wide security camera system was installed in the summer of 2023.
In 2016, Washington County began working on a multi-phase Walker Road improvement and widening project. Eventually, this would require us to build a new parish office, and development began in 2018 to design and plan for the necessary relocation and construction. Due to the pandemic, only the first three phases were completed before the County was forced to scale back and indefinitely delay their plans. Work resumed in 2023, and the County confirmed in the fall of 2024 that the planned expansion would still result in our needing to relocate the office.
A “Dreaming Summit” was held to explore how we should address the expansion in the short term and to develop a 25-year vision for our campus facilities. It was determined that combining the new office with a new parish hall/gathering center was the best course of action, and a Design Committee was formed to begin exploring options. Discussions with an architect and the early stages of planning for a feasibility study are set to begin in the spring of 2026, which is also when roadwork directly affecting Holy Trinity is expected to begin in earnest.
